In profile view, some patients’ chins are clearly in retrusion in comparison with their forehead and nose, as can be seen by drawing an imaginary vertical line down the face, giving the patient’s face a “bird-like” appearance. Also known as a weak chin, it is not easily distinguishable to most people; however, after seeing some before & after pictures, the change is nothing short of impressive, achieving facial balance and harmony.

A 2-3 cm. (¾ - 1¼ in) incision is made under the chin, which will eventually fade away completely thanks to a technique where the sutures are hidden away under the skin, which is joined with a special bonding material. This incision provides access to the bone, which is then sanded to provide better adherence of the implant (made of silastic, a material approved by both the U.S. FDA and the Mexican Ministry of Health) to the bone |
|
Bone has no feeling, what has feeling is the tissue on top of the bone. Therefore, once the chin implant – which obviously has no feeling either – is attached to the bone and becomes a part of it, it will feel completely natural, as if there were no implant at all.
